Vinyl Fence Installation on Long Island

Vinyl fence is the top choice for Long Island homeowners across Nassau and Suffolk County — and for good reason. Once installed, you forget about it. No painting every few years, no treating against rot after a wet winter, no replacing warped boards. Vinyl holds up against Long Island's coastal humidity, salt air, and freeze-thaw cycles better than any other material at the price point.

We install commercial-grade triple-wall PVC with UV inhibitors built into the material. Single-wall vinyl gets brittle in Long Island winters — ours doesn't. Styles include privacy (full-panel 6-foot), shadowbox (dual-sided with airflow), picket (classic front yard), ranch rail, and lattice top. Available in white, tan, and gray.

Vinyl fence installation on Long Island typically runs $25 to $45 per linear foot installed — that covers labor, materials, posts set in concrete, and cleanup. A 150-linear-foot privacy fence runs approximately $4,500 to $6,500 complete. Nassau County and Suffolk County permit costs are separate where required.

Wood Fence Long Island

Wood gives a warmth and character that vinyl can't replicate. A well-built cedar board-on-board fence becomes part of the landscape — it ages gracefully with the property rather than looking like a product. Long Island's climate is manageable for cedar and pressure-treated pine when the fence is built right and properly maintained.

We work with two main materials. Cedar is the premium option: naturally rot-resistant, insect-resistant without chemical treatment, and takes stain beautifully. Cedar stained with a penetrating deck stain lasts 15 to 25 years in Long Island conditions. Pressure-treated pineis less expensive and still holds up well — typically 12 to 20 years. For coastal Suffolk County properties near the Sound or South Shore, cedar's natural resistance to salt air makes it the better long-term investment.

Wood fence installation on Long Island runs $20 to $40 per linear foot installed. Cedar board-on-board runs $28 to $40. Pine stockade runs $18 to $28. Staining is available as an add-on.

Aluminum Fence Long Island

Ornamental aluminum gives you the classic look of wrought iron without the weight, maintenance cost, or corrosion risk. Powder-coated aluminum has a hard baked-on finish that holds up to Long Island winters and coastal salt air for 30+ years. No painting, no rust treatment, no replacement parts.

Aluminum is the preferred material for pool fencing on Long Island because it meets both Nassau and Suffolk county code requirements, looks elegant poolside, and never requires upkeep. We install 4-foot pool code fence with self-latching, self-closing gates and spear tops — built to pass inspection on the first walk-through. Available in black (the most popular), bronze, and white. Heights from 3-foot decorative to 6-foot privacy panel.

Aluminum fence installation runs $22 to $55 per linear foot installed. Standard 4-foot residential ornamental runs $28 to $42. Pool code fence (4-foot spear top with self-latching gate) runs $30 to $45.

Fencing Questions

Answers to the questions Long Island homeowners ask most.

How much does a fence cost on Long Island?

Vinyl fence typically runs $28 to $45 per linear foot installed. Wood cedar board-on-board runs $22 to $38. Aluminum ornamental is $30 to $50. Chain link is the most affordable at $12 to $22. Prices vary by height, style, and property access. We give free written estimates.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Nassau or Suffolk County?

Most Nassau County towns require a permit for anything over 4 feet in the front yard, or over 6 feet in the backyard. Suffolk County requirements vary by town — Islip, Babylon, Huntington, Brookhaven, and Smithtown each have their own building department rules. We research permit requirements for your specific address as part of every estimate.

How long does fence installation take?

A standard residential fence of 100 to 200 linear feet typically takes 1 to 3 days. Chain link installs fastest. Board-on-board cedar takes longest per linear foot. We give you a project timeline in writing with every estimate.

What is the best fence for privacy on Long Island?

For maximum privacy, a 6-foot vinyl or wood privacy fence is the most effective choice. Vinyl (full-panel privacy) blocks all sightlines and requires zero maintenance. Cedar board-on-board is slightly more attractive and allows airflow while still blocking views. Both are widely installed across Nassau and Suffolk County.

What is the difference between vinyl and wood fence?

Vinyl (PVC) never rots, warps, or needs painting. It lasts 25 to 30+ years with almost no upkeep. Wood has a natural look vinyl can't replicate, but requires staining or sealing every few years and will eventually need board replacements. Vinyl costs slightly more upfront but has a lower lifetime cost. Most Long Island homeowners who want low maintenance choose vinyl.

Does a fence need HOA approval on Long Island?

Many communities in Nassau County and certain Suffolk County planned developments require HOA approval before fence installation. Garden City, parts of Levittown, and various planned communities all have review requirements. We advise you on the HOA approval process during the estimate — getting approval before installation saves expensive revisions.

How long will my fence last?

Vinyl PVC: 25 to 30 years. Aluminum: 30+ years. Cedar stained or treated: 15 to 25 years. Pressure-treated pine: 12 to 20 years. Galvanized chain link: 20 to 30 years. All our fences come with a workmanship warranty.

Do you handle pool fence code compliance?

Yes. We install code-compliant pool barriers per Nassau and Suffolk county requirements: minimum 4-foot height from grade, self-latching self-closing gates, maximum 4-inch picket spacing, gate latch 54 inches from grade on the pool side. Every pool fence we install is built to pass inspection on the first try.
